Workshops & Trainings

Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training (PSA Training)

The Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service’s Produce Safety Team offers to produce safety training to help make your farm compliant with the new FSMA food safety regulations. Topics covered include agricultural water, soil amendments, worker health and hygiene, wildlife management, post-harvest handling, and food safety plans.

Better Process Control School

The Division of Agriculture hosts a 3-day course for participants seeking certification in acidified foods or acidified and low-acid foods. This school is provided to help food manufacturers be in compliance with USDA and FDA regulations which require that food manufacturers of low-acid or acidified foods must operate at all times under the supervision of a person who has attended Better Process Control School. The next Better Process Control School course will take place in Spring of 2023.

Preventive Controls for Human Food Workshop (PCQI Training)

The Division of Agriculture hosts a 3-day workshop for those seeking to meet the FDA requirements for a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI). The certification is required for individuals who provide oversight for the identification and mitigation of hazards in the implementation of a food safety plan, review of records, and reanalysis of food safety plans.

HACCP Workshops

These workshops are offered to meat and poultry processors and hosted by Center of Excellence for Poultry Science faculty Dr. John Marcy in collaboration with Bob Galbraith of the HACCP Consulting Group.

Culinary Arts for Food Technologists

This is a series of three 40-hour culinary arts classes taught by Dr. John Marcy, Extension Food Scientist, and offered in conjunction with the Research Chefs Association to fulfill the 120-hour requirement for Certified Culinary Scientist.© Courses in Culinary Arts Fundamentals, Advanced Culinary Arts and Baking Arts Fundamentals are offered each year.

F2OCUS Future of Food Fellowship Program

The Future of Food: Opportunities and Careers for Undergraduate Student (F2OCUS) Fellowship Program aims to provide undergraduate students with experiential learning opportunities to increase their understanding of the future of food systems as it relates to enhancing the safety, quality, and security of our food supply through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and leadership development.

Online Master of Science in Food Safety

This 30 credit hour online interdisciplinary master’s program enables experienced food safety professionals to advance their careers by expanding their knowledge base and skill set.
